Price Family Fitness 6 week Challenge August 2018….. Steph Delaney

What have I achieved and how has my mindset towards fitness changed?

This was my first challenge that I was able to complete. After starting a challenge this time last year I was stopped in my tracks when I fell pregnant with the H man and training came to a complete halt due to being so sick. I didn’t train for 9 months so when registering for this challenge I felt that I had a massive point to prove. Not only to myself but also to Renee and Maty because I had fully intended on training throughout my pregnancy but unfortunately my body didn’t allow it.

In the last 6 weeks i have been able to get in touch and re-engage with the old Steph. The Steph that I haven’t hung about with in just over 3yrs – since Matilda was born. I discovered how much I missed looking after myself and that even if I put myself last in every other aspect of my life, this was the one part that I choose to be selfish with and put myself first now.

I set out to train 6 times a week but I managed to train 7 and sometimes even 8 times each week!

As I reflect, I remember the first ever class I did at Price, I cried all the way as I walked home at how unfit I was and how embarrassed I was that I had to stop and sit outside for a few minutes because I got light headed and wanted to vomit.

I remember how gutted I was when I became so sick during my pregnancy that I had to pull the pin and cancel my membership. I was literally counting down the days to my 6 week post pregnancy check up so that I could just get back there!

I remember my first session back was Tuesday morning in the park with Renz and I was totally shitting myself. (Didn’t even have a SLIM tea the night before!) Praying that the kids would allow me the 45mins I so desperately needed. Scared to find out how unfit I had become, scared of not being able to keep up, scared of not knowing anyone all over again.

I could barely lift the 5kg plate repetitively over my head while squatting and running holding that rope damn near killed me!

During this challenge I had to do the exact same exercises and realised how much stronger I have become. Not only can I run but I can run holding that stupid rope with 2 hands above my head and not feel like I’m going to collapse. I also squat press the 10kg plate now because the 5kg feels like a feather. Instead of ball slamming 8kg I do 12kg and same with the kettle bells. I have also started doing push-ups on my toes, they’re not deep but it’s a start!

I now look forward to training and I’m not nervous on my way there, I’ve made some really lovely friends and I’ve been accepted into a community that respects me as much as I respect them and one that also accepts that I have 2 children that most of the time need to be with me while I train. I’m not singled out for it and I never feel like it’s a burden to bring them with. This has made the absolute world of difference to me with what I’ve managed to accomplish.

During the last 6 weeks, I have noticed a massive change in my body. My goal was to lose 15kgs by the start of December. I have so far lost 4.1kg but 5kg since I started training back at Price. While I stopped dropping the weight at week 3, I continued to lose cm’s and started noticing a change In my body shape. I have gone down a size in my pants and for the first time since i was a teenager I bought size 10-12 clothes. I have lost 10cm from my waist and 9cm from my hips in only 6 weeks, and much to my excitement, 6cm from my chest!! I am blown away!

I have not had a great deal of support at home during this challenge and have had to overcome some pretty serious emotional stress eating habits but I’m glad to say that I have succeeded and I certainly didn’t do that alone. The support from everyone at Price, including Mark Lironi has been so overwhelming and I am so grateful. From the toots of the horn and waves I get as I walk over and the smiling faces when I get there to the trainer waiting back to run with me and offer words of encouragement as I bring up the rear and messages to see if I was ok because I missed a training session, it has all been noticed and appreciated beyond words and it has made feel valued and as though I matter to this family.

I am forever grateful to you for helping me find Steph. I am training passionately again and have redeveloped a lifestyle that I love, am happy with and am proud to have my kids watch and learn from me and it’s all because of you guys! Thank you!

I just also want to make a special mention to a few chics that have been my motivation and inspiration to do better and go harder since I’ve started back at Price.

Ellie – I look at you with such admiration, I want your arms, I want your back, I want your body! Haha I mean that in the least weirdest way possible!! You are so fit and strong and to top it, you’re so beautiful, inside and out! Thank you for winning the last challenge, it was your before and after pics that gave me my original inspiration!

Rach Lloyd – Man, we were pregnant at the same time and to look at you now gives me so much hope that I too can regain my body and look & feel amazing. Thank you for letting me train with you on Tuesdays, it’s a real privilege!

Bop – I still don’t know too much about you but you are so motivational! You didn’t really know me at all in the beginning yet you took the time to talk to me, tell me I could reach my goal, and encourage me to do so. You are always so uplifting and I love trying to keep up with you during training! You are absolutely hilarious and I love ya!

Annita Chisholm- you’re such a quiet achiever but when it was brought to our attention what you have accomplished since training at Price, I couldn’t help but think, I want that to be me one day!! Thank you for training hard, it spurs me on to train hard too so that I can achieve my own version of success!

Elaine & Danielle – you girls are bloody awesome! I try to keep up with you every single day, I WILL catch you one of these days!!

I started training at Price Fitness in April 2018 after a very long time of pretty much doing nothing. I was extremely anxious at starting a fitness program again knowing how unfit I was, but also knowing that I had to start somewhere. After much discussion with a few people from work that already attend Price Fitness, I decided to contact them and start my fitness journey. For me personally it was important that I gained a level of fitness that would eventually allow me to also participate in the various classes available. I started with Personal Training sessions with Mat Price which was amazing. Although I did find the sessions to be physically tough, mentally I knew that I had the ability to complete each session, but just needed that help and push to keep going. It honestly didn’t take long until I started to see results in my fitness and strength levels.

 

I then started to incorporate the awesome classes available with a few PT sessions still thrown in the mix which helped improve my fitness even more. I also signed up to do the Price Fitness 6 Week Challenge. I did this purely as a challenge to myself to not only improve my eating habits by understanding how to include this correctly with exercise, but also to become a better version of myself in mind and body. I train at Price Fitness because it’s just not your typical gym environment. Mat and his team are totally invested in ensuring you reach your goals by being completely supportive and extremely motivating. Mat is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He never makes anyone feel like they’re just a gym member, you are part of the Price Fitness ‘family’. Mat’s level of knowledge is out of this world and not to mention extremely professional as well. If you need any encouragement, Price Fitness is the place to go. I feel very energised, inspired and motivated when training at Price Fitness. Mat will definitely keep you motivated at all times while you train as well as making you laugh. The trainers have a great style of coaching that always gets the best out of me. I just love the structure of the classes and that the classes constantly challenge you.

 

Although I only lost 1kg of overall body weight on the scales during the 6 Week Challenge, my actual aim was to drop my body fat percentage. I certainly achieved this by dropping this down by 3% which I was absolutely rapped with. I also lost cm’s from all over my body which was another bonus. I didn’t find the challenge difficult to follow because I was completely invested in doing this. It’s the first time ever in my life that I have stayed on track completing a fitness program from start to finish. I believe I was able to do this only because of the ongoing help and support provided by Mat and his team.

 

If you’re after a program that works, I would recommend doing the 6 Week Challenge. You’re never on your own and the other group members in the class are so lovely, friendly, amazing and help each other push through the exercises. All you have to do is turn up, which is normally the hardest part and Price Fitness will take care of the rest. You have nothing to lose so all I can say is go for it and give it a go. I’m looking forward to the next 6 Week Challenge and will be signing up to that one as well. Thanks so very much Mat, Renee and the team at Price Fitness. Legends!!
